Director's Saloon (10:15 - with Tea / Coffee & Shortbread) 2025
Strathspey Railway presents the 1944 LMS District Officers Saloon Car.
Originally pulled by its own locomotive the LMS District Officer would travel around the rail network in style in this Officer’s Saloon Car which was restored by the Watkinson’s Trust. The Saloon Car consists of two Saloon compartments, one for the District Officer the other for his staff and there is also a compartment for the Guard and a galley for the Steward. Wood panelled with late 1940s style fittings, red carpets and seating for 6 in each compartment you will have a comfortable journey with excellent views of Strathspey. The Chairman's side of the saloon also allows you to watch people working on the footplate as the loco will be in front of the window on the return trip. Starting at the Aviemore Victorian Station there are stops at the other Victorian stations of Boat of Garten and Broomhill during the journey.
This exclusive experience includes private Director’s Saloon return train travel (maximum of 6 guests regardless of age) with complimentary tea / coffee and shortbread.
Setting off at 10:30 only from Aviemore Station Platform 3, through to Boat of Garten and then on to Broomhill, the 1 hour 45 minute (approx) train journey takes you on a 20-mile return trip along part of the original Highland Railway mainline.
There is a bar on board which has a fine selection of locally distilled whiskies and beers available for you to enjoy as you travel back in time and the Steward will be happy to serve you during the service.
These trips are usually steam-hauled but are subject to change.
Dogs (except assistance dogs) are not permitted on this service.
