Directors' Saloon Afternoon Steam Tea 2025
Travel in style in your own Director’s Saloon compartment and enjoy an Afternoon Tea experience whilst taking in the scenery of the Cairngorms National Park.
Originally pulled by its own engine the LMS District Officer would travel around the rail network in style in this Officer’s Saloon Car which was restored by the Watkinson’s Trust. The Saloon Car consists of two Saloon compartments, one for the District Officer the other for his staff and there is also a compartment for the Guard and a galley for the Steward. Wood panelled with late 1940’s style fittings, red carpets and seating for 6 in each compartment you will have a comfortable journey with excellent views of Strathspey. The Chairman's side of the saloon also allows you to watch people working on the footplate as the loco will be in front of the window on the return trip. Starting at the Aviemore Victorian Station there are stops at the other Victorian stations of Boat of Garten and Broomhill during the journey.
No dogs are permitted except an assistance dog

This exclusive experience includes private Director’s Saloon return train travel (max 6 guests regardless of age) with a fine selection of sandwiches, freshly made cakes, scones with clotted cream and local jam, and is finished off with a mini bottle of prosecco (alternative drink available for children).
Setting off at 15:00 only from Aviemore Station Platform 3, through to Boat of Garten and then on to Broomhill, the 1 hour 45 minute (approx) train journey takes you on a 20-mile return trip along part of the original Highland Railway mainline.
There is a bar on board which has a fine selection of locally distilled whiskies and beers available for you to enjoy as you travel, and the Steward will be happy to serve you during the service.
PLEASE NOTE: Steam scheduled services may require to be diesel hauled should problems with the steam engine arise unexpectedly. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions prior to purchase.
