Adults-Only Elf Express Carriage
Looking for a calmer way to enjoy the magic of steam this festive season? We are delighted to introduce a dedicated adults-only carriage on selected Elf Express services, designed for passengers aged 16+ who would prefer a relaxed festive railway experience.
Step aboard a beautifully decorated heritage carriage and enjoy the gentle rhythm of steam* travel as we steam through the winter Highland scenery. This carriage offers a peaceful alternative to our family-focused experience, with no Santa or elf visits and no onboard entertainment, just the charm of the railway, festive surroundings, and time to unwind.
Tables seat up to four passengers. If demand is high, tables may be shared with fellow travellers, making it a lovely opportunity to enjoy the journey in good company. Seating is allocated by carriage, with seats chosen on a first come, first served basis once onboard.
While there is no included catering in this carriage, our trolley service will visit offering refreshments to purchase, and the onboard bar will be open for those who fancy a festive tipple.
Tickets are available individually at our standard prices:
Adults: £24.50
Seniors: £22.50
Please note, dogs are not permitted on this train.

This carriage is located at the far end of the platform and is not accessible for wheelchairs or walkers. We kindly ask passengers with mobility needs to take this into account when booking.
*Please be aware: We always aim to deliver a steam-hauled service however, on occasion, due to operational issues, it may be necessary to substitute for a heritage diesel engine, to ensure we can deliver the scheduled service, this would only happen as a last resort.
